　Joe Sample の Ashes to Ashes は、1990年の album です。'89年の Spellbound と同様、Marcus Miller と Omar Hakim の rhythm section を中心に、彼が思う存分 solo をとるという構成です。いくぶん地味な印象を受けますが、よく歌っている piano がジワリジワリと効いてきます。"Born To Be Bad" は、Ricky Peterson の音作りも素晴らしいです。

　龍だからと言うことはありませんが、The Battle Rages On は Deep Purple の1993年の、第２期の member で制作された album です。実は僕は album を１回聴いて、もう箱の隅にしまってそれっきりでした。だって、これはいわゆる「ダサい」んですもの…。まあ「史上最大の問題作」たる所以ですね。改めて聴いてみると、いくつかの曲は合格点です。でもこれで Ritchie Blackmore も脱退しました。やっぱり…。

　1997年に America で出版された Arthur Golden の小説 Memoirs of a Geisha（日本では「さゆり」）、これの原作を Steven Spielberg が感動し、構想を温めて、2005年に製作した作品です。音楽の担当は巨匠 John Williams に、soloist の Itzhak Perlman と Yo-Yo Ma の２人が。彼らの好演も光ります。物語は第二次世界大戦前後にかけて京都で活躍した、日本の芸者の話。しかし、多くの人が日本人ではありません。主演の Zhang Ziyi も日本人ではない…。

　For the Love of Strange Medicine は、元 Journey の Steve Perry の、1994年の２枚目の album です（元々 Against the Wall と言う album が、すったもんだのせいでお蔵入りになってしまいましたが…）。Single chart の "You Better Wait" が全米29位、"Missing You" が全米74位。このうち "Young Hearts Forever" は、Thin Lizzy の故 Phil Lynott に捧げられたものです。

　Enjoy Yourself は、1989年、Kylie Minogue の２枚目の album です。全英１位（実は America も入るには入りましたが…）。Album は、例外の "Tears on My Pillow" を除いて、後は Stock, Aitken, Waterman の制作です。Singles の "Hand on Your Heart" が全英１位、"Wouldn't Change a Thing" が全英２位、"Never Too Late" が全英４位、"Tears on My Pillow" が全英１位。

　Case Closed: The Raven Chaser（名探偵コナン・漆黒の追跡者）は、2009年の日本の animation 映画です。興行収入は35億円を超えこの番組では１位を叩きだし、日本 Academy 賞の優秀 animation 作品賞を受賞しました。コナンと蘭、警察、連続殺人犯、組織の四つ巴の death game が Tokyo Tower で繰り広げられます。なお、阿笠博士が少年探偵団と album の話をしていますが、それには The Beatles の名前が…。

　Boz Scaggs の Other Roads は1988年作品で、全米47位。。R&R や ballade と変わらぬ彼の vocal が渋く光る作品で、Bobby Caldwell との競作 "Heart of Mine" も話題となりました（全米35位）。また "Cool Running" は Patrick Leonard と書いたもの、"The Night of Van Gogh" は Peter Wolf と書いたものです。Back には Toto の Steve Lukather, David Hungate, David Paich, Jeff Porcaro の名前が。

　The Manhattan Transfer の The Offbeat of Avenues は、1991年に release されました。Collaborate して作り上げた story とでお洒落で hip な感覚が溢れています。残念ながら全米179位。しかし "Sassy" で、Grammy Award の Best Contemporary Jazz Performance に選ばれました。歌詞は Janis Siegel と Cheryl Bentyne で、Siegel と Bill Bodine が歌っています。

　Kiss the Girls は1997年の America 映画です。原作は James Patterson で、Dr. Alex Cross series の２作目。これがちょっと逆転していて、映画の２作目 Along Came a Spider が１作目になります（2001年）。Gary Fleder 監督・Mark Isham 音楽、俳優は Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes, Ashley Judd など。内容は Psychological thriller で、犯罪心理学の博士号を持つ捜査官の Cross が連続女子大生誘拐殺人事件の犯人を追います…。

　全米34位。Vocal はもちろん、material や band ensemble に、Robert Plant の持ち味が生きています。全体的には British rock で、hard さは多少減り派手さはありませんが、渋味のある極上の rock album ですね。少し抑え気味に歌う Plant の貫禄を兼ね備え、方向性が確立されつつあります。元 It Bites の Francis Dunnery が数曲に参加。１枚通して聴くと、何ともいい気持ちになれる album です。
